This year our theme at Doing Family Right has been reconciliation. Helping couples reconcile their relationships, parents reconciling with their children, and people reconciling their relationship with Christ. Reconciliation is a very powerful action in response to a changed heart and perspective that is bathed in forgiveness and love. To reconcile means to become friendly with someone after estrangement, or to re-establish friendly relations between 2 or more people. It is common for all forms of relationships to become strained, to grow weary, and without proper attention or the right steps taken, they distance and fall apart.
At DFR our mission is to help re-establish connection through Biblical truths of God’s love and plan, and to offer foundational and practical skills geared towards bettering the marriage and family to last a lifetime. 2 Corinthians 5:17-20 says, “This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun! And all of this is a gift from God, who brought us back to himself through Christ. And God has given us this task of reconciling people to him.19 For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people’s sins against them. And he gave us this wonderful message of reconciliation. 20 So we are Christ’s ambassadors; God is making his appeal through us. We speak for Christ when we plead, “Be reconciled to God!” This is the heartbeat and mission of Doing Family Right!
This Christmas we would like say THANKYOU, for taking a stand with us through financial and prayer support, and for helping make this happen even more in 2015! As many of you know, as full-time missionaries, David and I rely on your faithful contributions. Stepping out in faith in this way has been incredible. God has taken us to amazing places as we learn how to rely on Him as He provides through you. Having our children journey with us has also been an amazing blessing as we have seen it deepen their faith and understanding of God’s love and provision!
Another way you can support us with DFR, is to have your church host us as we present our marriage material or our parenting sessions to your community. We speak at men’s and women’s events, educational conferences, church leadership conferences and so much more! We have a vast array of marriage and family related topics. One of our biggest topics of interest has been: Protecting Your Kids Online: Social Media, Cell Phones and the Internet.
Dave—Having been with DFR now for over 2 years, ministry opportunities have picked up tremendously. Apart from speaking engagements at churches, camps and conferences, Dave busies himself with regularly writing his blog davidmcvety.com as well as making significant changes to the new website that we hope to launch soon in the New Year, not to mention helping create curriculum, networking, and assisting Dr. Dave Currie with ministry needs. He also spends time volunteering with the Nomination Committee at Grace Church. He has been asked to teach at a Caregroup in the New Year as well, which he is very excited about. Dave also volunteers weekly at Cadets, which is a boys’ club ministry at New Life Christian Reformed Church that Josiah has started attending. Along with everything else, Dave has been doing renos around the house, enjoy family time with his children, and spend quality time with Melissa.
Melissa—Is starting to find her routine with homeschooling both Leigha and Josiah through the TLA program. She has really been enjoying spending this time with them. Apart from teaching the kids full-time and managing all the household responsibilities, Melissa is very much involved in Doing Family Right with a very full speaking schedule, as well as her daily tips and posts on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and the mobile App. She was able to squeeze in a visit to see our dear friends and supporters in Niverville, MB while attending a Women of Faith conference! Last May, she decided to become an Epicure consultant as a way to try to bring in some extra income to subsidise our support. Melissa also volunteers at our church in both the Sr. Starting Line (kids program for grades 1-5) and Jr. Starting Line (kids program for 3-5 year olds), teaching once a month. This fall, she decided to keep working on her Master’s Degree SLOWLY by taking one class per semester in pursuit of her Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy at ACTS Seminary in Langley, BC.
Merci—After moving back to BC in April, Merci is working with Bethesda Christian Association providing care to those with special needs in a residential facility. Her co-workers and supervisors really appreciate what she brings to the home, and she is adored by many of her residents. She has moved into her own suite and we are excited to have her living back in the Abbotsford area!
Leigha & Josiah—Besides the adventure of being each other’s only classmate and having their mom as their teacher, these wonderful kids busy themselves with Sun Hang Do, running club, GEMS and Cadets, piano lessons, and have even taken up a newspaper route job! Josiah is a part of the Lighthouse Theatre group and will be performing in Pinocchio Jr. in May! They are a true blessing and super helpful around the house.
Toby—We can’t believe Toby is already 4! He won’t let us forget because he is intent on reminding us that he isn’t a little boy anymore. Toby goes to daycare 3 days a week, and enjoys spending time with his friends, not to mention, getting something special to do apart from everyone else. He is also in Sun Hang Do. It’s so amazing to have all 3 kids in one program together, lessening our running around.
We would be honored if you would consider giving towards strengthening and building marriages and families, thank you for praying for us and if you find God leading you to give towards our ministry involvement please Click Here to Donate.
